SUMMARY:Community Interpreter (HHS) - Level I Training
DESCRIPTION:These seminars are for bilingual people who are called upon to interpret in health and human services settings such as: health departments\, mental health clinics\, social services programs and services\, etc. Besides learning effective interpreting skills\, participants also learn about Latino culture and how cultural differences can affect the immigrant's understanding of the American system. Co-developed by your instructor\, Yasmin Wurts Metivier of Panoltia\, and Eta Trabing of the Berkana Language Center\, this workshop is based on more than 20 years of professional interpreter experience.\n\n\n\nTopics Include:\n\n\n	The Role of the Interpreter \n	Basic Interpretation Skills and Techniques \n	How to handle difficult interpreting situations \n	Interpreter's Code of Ethics \n	The new recent immigrant belief system and cultural differences\n	How to incorporate cultural differences to improve communication\n	Role plays taken from real life situations using terminology applicable to: Adults and children's health assessments\, mental health evaluations\, social services programs\, and DV reports.\n\n \n\nParticipant Prerequisites: \n\nLevel I - Must be bilingual (English/Spanish)\n\n \n\nFees:\n\nLevel I: $199 per person (includes a copy of "Manual For Community Interpreters" published by Berkana Language Center and Panoltia\, Inc.\, a $50 retail value).\n\n \n\n \n\nFor more information and to register visit\n\n www.panoltiatraining.com\n\nor call Panoltia at (919) 467-3590
